Ever since Borderlands 1 was around, this idea's been percolating for quite some time. And I'm actually a little surprized it wasn't the surprise Fifth Element we'd been waiting for. In a game that throws around lightning, fire, acid, and explosive damage...
How is there NOT an Ice-releated gun manufacturer? And given good portions of Borderlands 2 are 'iced over' why not have a defected group of Maliwan employees move to the locale and create their own line...
So I unveil for your viewing pleasure:
Manufacturer: Glacial Cryotechnics
Gun Names: Seeing as most companies have a 'running gag' with their firearms' names, Glacial Cryotechnics is not above putting silly acronyms for their weaponry lines. Most are related to liquid, as their ammunition converters render the lead into capsules of liquid nitrogen.
Prefixes - Melted, Splashing, Aqueous, Deliquescent, Dissolving, Ichorous, Mellifluous, Sappy, Viscous.
Suffixes -
Pistol - Plinker, Injector, Needler, Popper.
Shotgun - Puffer, Sprayer, Spreader, Shredder.
SMG - Flake, Sprinkler, Spritzer, Trickle.
Assault Rifle - Storm, Tsunami, Gale, Tornado.
Sniper Rifle - Spear, Bayonet, Pike, Partisan.
Missle Launcher - Brute, Crusher, Glory, Titan.
Shield - Carapace, Shell, Pod, Chassis.
Red Text:
Frozen Heart (Pink Heart particles left in shot wakes, minor life leech regen).
Stop them in their Tracks (Large munitions, possibly only on shotguns).
Chill Out (Large amounts of munitions used slow down targets exponentially).
Hades wants His River Back (Extremely high rate of fire, almost ridiculously so).
FREEZE RAY! (2% chance to freeze an enemy solid for five seconds, does not stack with other Freeze Ray imbued objects.)
Effects and Appearance: Minor slow effect, 'wet' which means lightning does additional damage. Can be stacked with slag but halves duration of slag as it freezes/washes it off. Plenty of ice particle effects, and a dark blackish-blue colour so it is not confused with the bright blue of shock weapons.
The gun looks is open-face, exposing the cooling rods and working gears. Misting steam is definitely flickering off of the object, and it occasionally coats the shield wall with a sheen of ice crystals.
Backstory: Originally, the creators of the Glacial Cryotech Arms company were employees of the Maliwan company, in a subdivision that never really got to see the light of day. After their Ice weapons projects were shut down, most of the Glacial Cryotech employees today defected from the mother company, and began to fully evolve their weaponry.
Using a combination of liquid nitrogen converters and digistruct technology, they found they could use the materials in ammunition quite well to fuel the change to the hollow crystalline rounds their guns expel. And that the energy of such a transformation in shields could be augmented to change them into icicle-like spikes.
