worst idea for a new character class...

a claptrap

character skill : "open your trap !" : clap trap starts to speak non-stop and quickly goes in trance, which boosts his speed and stats.

tree 1 : showman.

- enemy oriented skills (e.g. the more enemies in the fight, the more damage or cooldown time reduction, or bonuses for damaging several enemies at once, etc). because the bigger the audience, the better the show.

- mid tree additional skill : "ultra lame joke" : at the beginning of using the skill, claptrap tells a lame joke, the enemies laugh and stop moving and shooting for a while, so they are vulnerable for a couple of seconds.

- end tree additional skill : "killing joke" : enemies get damage from laughing, and explode if they die.

tree 2 : cheerleader.

- team play oriented skills.

- mid tree skill : "cheer up" : during the skill claptrap sings like a cheerleader to give confidence to team mates. it has the exact opposite effect (because claptraps are unbearable) and infuriates them, which boosts speed and damage for all the team, while they tell claptrap to shut up.

- end tree skill : "kill the cheerleader, save the world". FFYLT becomes a pom pon routine. claptrap has an extra life bar and the first team mate to kill claptrap gets full health, shield and ammo. the player can't shoot or move (and should go back to life after this I guess, otherwise the skill would be too punitive). the life bar must be more consequent according to the number of players, so killing the claptrap can become a funny and rewarding occupation (because only the player giving the finishing blow will have the bonuses).

tree 3 : zen monk.

- player oriented skills (extra damage, extra moves...).

- mid tree skill : "go monk" : claptrap recites zen mantras and unleashes its inner martial artist (faster movements and fire rate, melee becomes a massive kung-fu combo which ends the skill).

- end tree skill : "I can see the code". when using his skill, the player can dodge some bullets like matrix's agents, see through walls, teleport like a ninja (instead of jumping), and of course sees some strange letters scrolling vertically.


(couldn't resist putting some references in some skill names)

for multi-tree builds I guess claptrap would have to alternate lines between his personalities (would emphasize the hysteria effect). except for the jokes of the "showman" skill tree which should always come first since they have a direct effect on enemies.

extra skin elements would be funny while using the skill. such as an extra hand with a mic for the showman, extra hands with pom pons for the cheerleader, a traditional outfit (and maybe matrix-style sunglasses) for the monk...
