Show us your MALIWANS! (photo happy)

Hi. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone working on a Maliwan. Myself included, though I try to stray from the dead cat swinging. I wanted to share and see what who is working and who is behind the what that is... wait.

Show us your guns!

It all starts with an idea. (though a bit far from the mark)

I decided to do a cardboard and tape mock-up for scaling. The prop is for my wife and I didn't want it to be too big.

I read about using dry floral foam for base structure on RPF so I bought a case ($35 ish shipped for 20 bricks) and set the layout. I use a basic Sharpie for marking but a brush tip marker would work better as the surface of the foam is a little fragile. All my carving has been done with discarded kitchen knives (serrated) and sanded with my fingers. Remember if you try this method, the foam is a little soft.

The best part about being a bit obsessive and crafty is the work can come easily. I've been thinking about making one of these styled (Maliwan) guns since Axton pulled the Launcher in the opening sequence, so The first couple days I raged out the majority of rough the front end.

The different blocks/components are held together with a little bits of sticky velcro to help visualize the overall shape while carving.

On day two I carved the handle a bit and glued the first four blocks together with elmers white glue. It works amazingly with the foam and has a bit of workability after application.

So from this point its kind of stick and move, or glue and carve...

Glue on some blocks:

Tune them in.
